As everyone knows, The Witcher and Cyberpunk titles are only two of the projects made by CD Projekt Red. The studio is known for its high-quality RPGs and is currently working on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2. Recent reports indicate that the Cyberpunk 2 team, and The Witcher 4, are expanding. This is excellent news for fans as it points to the studio putting more resources and effort into the titles that everyone is waiting for.
Recently, it was published that the CD Projekt Red BTS received a financial report which revealed that The Witcher 4 now has 444 developers working on it, a increase of 22 since April. As for Cyberpunk 2, its team has also grown from 96 to 116 developers. Reflecting CD Projekt Red’s commitment to prioritizing these projects, the overall developer headcount at CD Projekt has reached nearly 800, a 10% increase over the past three months, with further growth expected by year-end.
The Witcher 4: A New Saga Begins
With Ciri as the lead character, Witcher 4 is the beginning of a new saga for the legendary series. Unlike Geralt, Ciri possesses a blend of magical talents and a more emotionally rich storyline, granting her a different outlook. The game takes place on the Continent, where dark fantasy meets reality, including Kovir, which was recently featured in an Unreal Engine tech demo.

Epic Games and Witcher 4’s developers held a joint presentation featuring breakthroughs in open-world gameplay like the Nanite Foliage rendering, MetaHuman, and Mass AI crowd scaling. Designed to make the world more believable and interactive, the system will allow for 60 frames per second on console systems such as the PlayStation. Witcher 4 will keep the series gameplay depth, and alongside the still-present passive approach to combat and story, will add new active combat as well as more dynamic, momentous, and relation-focused narrative choices.
Cyberpunk 2: Moving into Pre-Production
While The Witcher 4 is already in full production, Cyberpunk 2 (codenamed Project Orion) is moving into pre-production. This stage includes key concept art and planning. While I’m sure many fans are looking forward to it, it seems to be far off in the future, however it is still a good sign as it shows CD Projekt Red is looking to build on the success of Cyberpunk 2077, which, after a turbulent release, was able to pivot to being a well-received RPG.

Financial Backing & Strategic Vision
This is being funded by CD Projekt’s financial backbone. For the Cyberpunk 2077 to be making money as well as its Phantom Liberty expansion, they did have a dip in earnings on the first half of 2025 of 443 million PLN (around $121 mil). The release of Cyberpunk 2077 on both switch and Mac have accelerated these sales and contributed to the sustained earnings. It does seem that the studio is looking to spend over 240 million PLN in future projects, which they subsequently hope to achieve in the coming years.
Looking Forward
Based on these projections, fans of The Witcher 4 are able to get their hands on the game in 2027, and Cyberpunk 2 will be released somewhere around 2030. I personally am looking forward to these dates as the studio being so openly transparent about the release means something good for the fans. CD Projekt Red’s resolute updates and reflection from prior launches strongly points towards a positive sign in the future. “experiences that redefine immersive storytelling” as they’ve been described by Joint CEO, Michal Nowakowski.
Conclusion
With The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, it’s clear that CD Projekt Red continues to balance ambition with quality, as they expand their development teams. With The Witcher 4 as the studio’s flagship project and Cyberpunk 2 picking up steam, it seems that the future of RPGs is more promising than it’s ever been. The next chapter of The Witcher series will undoubtedly build on its rich heritage while also looking to carve its own bold direction.
